Love Takes the Cake, a novella by Betsy St. Amant tells the story of two people who are not actively looking for a relationship. Charlotte, a single mother, was badly hurt by the father of her child. Maybe one day she’ll meet a man who is stable and willing to be a good father to her daughter. She has a successful bakery and for the time being she is content. Then along comes attractive Will who comes in every week to purchase bake goods for Melissa who Charlotte assumes is Will’s girlfriend. As it turns out, this is not the case. Will unexpectedly ends up in charge of ordering deserts for his friend’s wedding and all the related festivities. As a result, Charlotte and Will spend time together. Still thinking that Will is involved with Melissa, Charlotte tries to keep things on a professional level. Will struggles with his own issues, but decides to try to date Charlotte. Charlotte and Will come with a lot of baggage and it remains to be seen if they are willing to take a chance on each other.
This is well written love story. Well drawn characters and a solid story line make for a highly readable story. Highly recommended.
