Love on a Deadline, by Kathryn Springer, is a novella which takes place in Mackenzie Davis’s small home town of Red Leaf. She had moved to the big city after college to pursue a career in journalism, but she came back to care for her father after he became ill. She is working for the town’s local newspaper and she needs to strengthen her resume by writing articles about something other than the garden club’s meetings. However, the opportunity hasn’t presented itself yet. She wants to work for a large newspaper away from Red Leaf. She is told she will cover the upcoming wedding of Hollis Channing to a celebrity. She hasn’t forgotten how mean Hollis was to her when they were in school. Nor has she ever forgotten her feelings for Hollis’s brother, Ethan. The Channing family had left Red Leaf years ago, but they kept their former home there. Hollis has decided she wants her wedding to be held at their old home and it is there that Mackenzie and Ethan meet again. Ethan has agreed to prepare the property for the wedding that is to take place in two weeks. He asks Mackenzie to help and she is less than enthusiastic. There is a great deal more than planning a wedding that transpires in this short time. A lot has changed for all of them. Can old hurts be resolved?
