Lethal Beauty, by Lis Wiehl with April Henry, is a legal thriller that is part of the Mia Quinn Mysteries. Mia Quinn was introduced as the protagonist in the first book of the series, A Matter of Trust. Mia returned to work as a prosecutor after her husband died leaving her with two children and a mountain of debt.
In Lethal Beauty, Mia Quinn is the prosecuting attorney in the trial of a wealthy man accused of murdering Dandan Yee, a young Chinese prostitute. Mia’s life is complicated enough, both professionally and personally, and things become even worse. Her key witness vanished and one juror causes a mistrial. Mia is determined to obtain justice for Dandan. She’s not alone in her mission. Dandan’s mother comes up with her own bizarre plan to seek justice for her daughter. Meanwhile, Mia’s teenage son seems to be rapidly changing emotionally and physically before her eyes. More people die and then Mia and her family are threatened.
I found this to be a fast moving and well written mystery with a variety of interesting characters. The story deals with many social issues including modern day slavery and drugs. The twists and turns keep the reader engaged in the story right up to the surprising conclusion.
