Emma was aware of her father’s grave diagnosis and struggles to deal with it. Unexpectedly, she comes across his “bucket list ” and included on it is “Walk Emma down the aisle”. She longs for a way to grant his wish as he may not live much longer. An October Bride, a novella by Katie Ganshert, is the story of what happens after she finds the list. She considers calling her ex-fiancé, but then Jake, her long time friend, offers to act as her groom. It becomes apparent he has reasons of his own. Emma agrees to enter into this “engagement” so that her father can walk her down the aisle and the wedding plans commence. Everyone is surprised by the unexpected engagement, but not everyone is happy about the upcoming wedding. Emma begins to question what she has done. Is it wrong to deceive her parents and can she actually go through with the wedding? Is it fair to Jake?
The book’s unique story line keeps the reader engaged. The likeable characters are realistic and add to the novel’s appeal. I really enjoyed this romantic story.
